It is a sport coupe and at the same time full time 4WD off-road. It was designed in the Korean manufacturer's California design studio. HCD-III has excellent performance on rough roads, and handles like a dream on paved roads.
Debut of Hyundai HCD-III took place at Detroit Motor Show in January 1995. HCD-III is third concept among cars designed in the California Design Studio of Hyundai company. It is a combination of two most popular classes of cars. Stylish and elegance exterior and rather comfortable occupant area make this car outstanding on the highways and it can compete with any modern coupe. At the same time transformer body, full-wheel drive, and versatile racks make this car a real off-road.
Heart of HCD-III is the 2.0-litre 16-valve DOHC turbo engine which delivers 240 hp. It has variable valve timing. Its power is delivered through a five-speed gearbox and full-time 4WD. Its interesting that HCD-III has mechanical versatile racks. You just must push a button and body of car will rise on 77 mm.
Body has easy to make, simple and strong construction. Chassis is made from a mixture of steel and aluminium. Panels of body are created from carbon-fibre plastic. The pleasant feature of HCD-III is a transformation. A canvas roll-top can be arranged to completely expose the interior, to give covered front seats and open luggage area, or to cover seats and luggage alike. Thats why it may looks like pickup or like coupe. Special hand-rails probably will be useful for passengers who prefer to take a ride upright. Rear door also impresses the customers. It may be opened up like ordinary passenger car or down like pickup. But was necessary to make this door too thick for it.
Besides, the HCD-III is also equipped with various advanced devices: the computer-controlled 'Navitac' on the dashboard instantly indicates destination on the map with the push of a button, and the stereo, CD player, heater, and air conditioner can all be automatically adjusted and set. Data from all of them bring up on single display that is more convenient I think.
Four-seating occupant area isnt rather large. Black and yellow interior is especially aggressive and simple. It continues the body style.
