The firm has developed the experimental automobile VRC (Vario Research Car), capable to serve as sedan, cabriolet, estate and pickup. The founder of VRC is a research centre Mercedes-Benz which headed by the doctor Michael Kramer. The machine exists in the single copy, but the formula advertising it says " Four automobiles in one ".

The automobile-transfomer is completed four replaceable additional storeies from CFPR (composite material with carbon fibres). They weight from 30 up to 50kgs. To change appearance of the car with ease it is possible for two men. The sizes of additional storeies are rather impressive and even a small skew can bring to fail attachment of panels. And the skew can have set of the reasons from an industrial failure to negligent storage of additional storeies. Expecting possible troubles Mercedes offers to replace additional stories on special service stations.

The demountable elements are established on the chassis with a practically high-grade body. The rigidity of a body on torsion and bend is provided with additional powers elements. Everything is made to exclude superfluous load on additional storey. To the point, the most complex of them is the storey for transformation VRC in estate. And not only because of the large sizes and presence of a back door it should be made more rigid. This additional storey is equipped hand-rail for fastening of luggage and should maintain 50 kgs of a load.

The designers VRC have ensured interface of additional body details, not forgetting about noise and vibration isalation and about reliable electromagnetic lockes. They also have expanded functions of electronics. It distinguishs, which type of additional storey is established on VRC and connects the electric drive awning for cabriolet or glass-cleaner for estate. For maintenance of rigidity of a body variant with two door was chosen. In this connection, it was necessary to put the electric drive for moving and folding forward seats, and complex control system of this mechanism.

The interior of the concept has appeared rather spacious. Passengersare not closely. Distance between front and rear seats is 800 mm. The firm has refused from traditional for Mercedes of a back drive and snatched a place for interior for the account of the transverce located engine and drive on forward wheels. The engine 1,5 cc is taken from Mercedes A-class.
One more conceptual decision for VRC is a conclusion on safety display of the indications of speedometer as geometrical images. A green circle - reasonable speed. Yellow ellipse - high speed. A red triangle - the speed has exceeded allowable restriction. The videochamber watch the road signs, and on the display acts the information on restrictions of speed and stated maneuvers.

Data of navigating system and diagnostic information are deduced on the display also. There is one more screen ih the concept. The most diverse data are deduced on it, but the information on it is accessible only to the passenger, as the system distinguishs, whence to keys a hand lasts.

The design of the VRC continues style of Mercedes. It's very pity, that Mercedes does't produce the similar automobile in serial manufacture as the competitor to automobiles of VW GOLF class. Tis car obviously surpasses appeared recently BMW compact and AUDI A3. It is pleasant to note high aerodynamics of VRC - Cx 0.28
